You know have the capability to take your Pages documents and export them to the epub format. Check out my comments here and what Apple says about their update. You can also check out their comments about using Pages and the epub format restrictions. The epub format is primarily used for novels and heavy text, but if you are looking for keeping your graphics then the PDF  format is for you.

One down, may more features to go. September 1st anyone?

Update 1: Floating objects in Pages are not supported in the update, you have to have all objects “Inline” with the text.

If you highlight a section of text and then using the OPT key click and drag and drop the selected section of text it “copies” the text to be placed where you want it.

When you are working with Pages you want to use a table of data, but there is a problem? You can only use the table “Inline” of the document and can not use it natively as a “Floating” graphic that allows your content to move around it, especially if it is a small table that might look better if it was off to the side of your document content. Well, here’s a work around.

  1. Open up the Numbers application.
  2. Either create the spreadsheet or table in Numbers and get it looking like you’d like it to look or open a previously created spreadsheet. Ensure all of the fonts, colors, results, labels, headers and footers are exactly the way you want it to look to your customer. Now you are set to create the graphic.
  3. Highlight all of the items in the spreadsheet that you want, or leave out items that you don’t want them in your graphic, and select Copy from the menu.
  4. Open up Preview and select “New from clipboard” and all of the items you have selected will show up in Preview as a PDF.
  5. If you need this graphic on a regular basis saved it as a file.
  6. From the Edit menu or using  your keyboard select Copy.
  7. Move to Pages and locate in the document where you want to place the new created graphic and select Paste.
  8. In Inspector now click on the Wrap Icon and decide on what you want to graphic to do.

You’re done! You now have a graphic that you can size in Pages that will go with whatever you are writing about and it will retain the image of the data you want to show.

If you need to, you can paste the Numbers spreadsheet directly into your Page document and you can now edit all of the data if you need to change things, but sometimes that’s not exactly what you want to do.

What tips do you need to get your marketing message out?

Do you have a Twitter account? Go on, you can tell us!! If you don’t have a Twitter account you’re behind the times!! You’ll be forever catching up.

Or so say the early adopters of technologies.

The reality is, it’s not essential that you have a Twitter account, but because of the technology it can be better than using email to rapidly connect with others, like giving out sales promotion information or up-to-date information regarding services that have gone down that affect your customer.

So here you go with the steps to create a Twitter background in iWork’s Pages

  1. Create a blank page layout document.
  2. Select a “Text Box” and measure the ruler 1/8th inch to 1 5/8th inches across and 1/8th inch to 4 inches down. You could go down about 5 inches.
  3. Type in your text with the various sizes, colors, etc
  4. Add any picture that would be about the same width size as the text box.
  5. Save the document as “Twitter Background.”
  6. Print or export it as a PDF.
  7. Open up this PDF file in Preview.
  8. Once the PDF file is open do a “Save As…” and save it as a PNG, JPG, or GIF and no greater than 800k size.
  9. Open up Twitter.com’s web site and select the Setting > Background and save your new background as the uploaded file.

This version only covers making a left sidebar for it, it does not provide for any other areas, you’ll have to work that out yourself. Now upload the file and check how it looks to you. If you don’t like the way it looks, follow the steps above with any changes.
