Well, been a while since I posted, so here is what I have been up to: I’ve been hard at work writing a new book about entrepreneurship, but this time the content is a little different. Having talked with a number of home schoolers, Christians and Jews I have found a dearth of entrepreneurial content for Christians to start their own businesses. In talking with a number of my Jewish friends it’s as if they have a “business gene” in them, but in reality they’ve been taught from the earliest of ages about money, serving your fellow man through a business, and stick-to-itiveness compared with some Christians that I have associated with.
That’s changing now.
In talking with a good friend of mine, Jimmy Graham, a former Navy SEAL and now pursuing his own business, CQD-Denver (there is NOTHING like Jimmy’s defense training, whether for home, school, business, and especially for law enforcement. I took a one day training, no one compares to what he offers, period), it seems that there is this lack of both information and training for Christians, both men and women, in how to think like a business person, not only in work, but to have another stream of income for one’s family in case of a job or work income loss. We’ve had a number of talks and not wanting to let this issue languish, I decided to do something about it.
While the talks between Jimmy and I have occurred since last October, it’s been since the beginning of the year that the urgency started to take root in me, and to a lesser extent because Jimmy is concentrating on his business, but still has a concern for the men at his church. On March 10th I met with four other Christian businessmen, all solopreneurs and Jimmy to hash out what kind of help they needed and to give them a boost in how to do better in business. What should have been a two hour session turned into three hours and could have gone into a four or even a five hour session with what stuff was “left on the table” by all of us. It just goes to show that more work is needed to be done.
So, not only have I been writing since roughly the end of January with a basic idea of my book, but I kicked it into gear at the beginning of February. I now sit at 56,000 words with a goal of 60,000, but more than likely I’ll hit about 70,000 words content wise, but it’ll be off to the editor soon after I get this done. I hope to have it published by June 1st, 2014 for two conferences that I hope to attend, one in June and one in July, 2014.
So, if you know of a Pastor of your local church that would like to get an advanced copy for either review or to see if their church could use the book as a basis for a workshop to help, please contact me via LinkedIn.com and let’s discuss it
Here’s to pursuing God’s prosperity for each of us.
