As an entrepreneur you either have time or have money, but usually not both. Later on as your business grows you’ll trade time for money by allowing others to do things they are better at than you are to free you up to do what you do best. But in the beginning if you don’t have the money then you have to do things yourself. But how can you save yourself time and money? Let’s take a look.

Buy Templates. You can take a look at Brad Gosse’s magazine templates and purchase them and make the adjustments you need and then create the documents. He has some great ideas and flair for this thing called marketing. Getting his templates will save you time, especially as low the price is for them.

Why a BIG seller or a BEST seller, is not the BEST solution for YOU

July 28th, 2011 No comments

I got an email yesterday out of the blue from someone I did not know who is the “Online Marketing Specialist” from this business. When you first get an email from someone you hope it is from someone you know, that you have previously connected with in some fashion or form so that you can at least begin to relate. But this was not the case here.

Here’s what was said in their first two paragraphs, I’ve added my comments in parenthesis:

Happy Independence Day, America! Get a FREE Font.

A Specimen of typeset fonts and languages, by ...

Check out Entrepreneur.com’s article for today, Why Entrepreneurs Celebrate ‘Independent’s Day’. On this Fourth of July holiday, small business owners share why they’re grateful to be calling their own shots.

Since Freedom begats free, so take a look at this FREE font. Per Yanone’s web site about this nice font:

Yanone Kaffeesatz was first published in 2004 and is my first ever finished typeface. Its Bold is reminiscent of 1920s coffee house typography, while the rather thin fonts bridge the gap to present times. Lacking self

confidence and knowledge about the type scene I decided to publish the family for free under a Creative Commons License. A decision that should turn out one of the best I ever made. It has been downloaded over 100,000 times to date from this website alone, and you can witness Kaffeesatz use on German fresh-water gyms, Dubai mall promos and New Zealand McDonald’s ads. And of course on coffee and foodstuff packaging and café design around the globe.

In 2009 I reworked much of the typeface, and it got published in FontShop’s FontFont Library under the new name FF Kava. You can read more about it in an extensive article by Yves Peters on the FontFeed.

In 2010 I decided to re-release the typeface under the SIL Open Font License to make it possible to include in software bundles or web font services like Google’s Font Directory.

While the font is free and most fonts go for around $20-40, some much higher, send him some font money love and donate and buy him some coffee.

Startup Entrepreneur Enchantment and Disenchantment

Guy Kawasaki, American venture capitalist and ...

As with any startup entrepreneur you start out with lots of hopes and dreams. And along the way, you expect both good and bad with the hope that there is more good than bad.

The guiding principle for any startup entrepreneur is to spend as little money as possible while accomplishing your goals. It’s about being a good steward of your financial and other resources. It’s about making sure that you’re making money first instead of just spending it.

Here is my short list of both.

Enchantment

I recently had my BEST enchantment encounter with none other than the man himself, Guy Kawasaki. It all started with a story he wrote in MacUser magazine in the 1990s. Fast forward to a few years ago as I began writing my book and the story so kept with me that I wrote the story that Guy wrote about in my book. Here is what I put in my book on page 239:

Digital reputations, social media, and relationships

June 23rd, 2011 1 comment

Startup entrepreneurs look for exposure for themselves, their product, and most of all their company. It’s a never ending part of marketing and you look for any and all chances to “meet and greet” with others that you can share a common connection with. A friend posted a link in the middle of June to an interview they did, a great interview, too, and I thought I’d make the same connection. I contacted the company with a one sentence comment (Hey, you interviewed my friend **** about her new book, would you do the same for me?) about the potential for an interview using their online contact form because in this internet age, a shorter introduction is better. It’s about respecting other people’s time.

BAM!

I got a quick reply just a few minutes later. Impressive to say the least, even in the instant internet age.

If they quickly replied, so should I. I started to reply to their email, “Thanks for such a quick reply. My book covers from a person’s ‘idea’ to ‘Grand Opening’ and how to use the Mac tools, including using it for social media ….” and then I was about to point out the connections I would make and how I might be a good fit for an interview, when ….
