While the most common thought about becoming an entrepreneur is usually a younger person in their late teens or early twenties that has been bitten by the “go it alone” bug and wants to make their mark in the world, studies are showing that more than not it’s the older people that are starting small businesses than the younger generations.
When you read this article you’ll see that those in the ages of 55-64 have a higher incidence of starting businesses that other age groups.
Why? Because as one that is close to that age group you don’t want to be told by larger corporations or lousy bosses that “you’re not good enough” or “no longer needed” at that company.
But it goes to show that all of the excuses that larger companies give to fire, layoff, rightsize, or in some case wrongfully terminate older workers shows that these workers won’t put up with such flapdoodle (yes, there is a word, look it up).
So baby boomers, start hanging out your own shingle to become your own boss. The “too big to fail” is not a place I no longer want to work for, let me take the risk AND reward, not let some other person decide whether I’m a failure or not. Let it be between my customer and me, not a middleman.
Strike out and get rich, or at least to the level of income that’s right for you!!
